Settled into Wuhan

We made it and tomorrow's the big day!! Forgive the lack of pictures, but we've been a bit busy today between travel and getting paperwork out of the way. One thing Avery did enjoy was surviving the trek across the street from our hotel (which is very, very nice I might add) to eat at a McDonald's! Thank goodness for picture menus, but that didn't seem to help Lola who ordered what she thought was a crispy chicken sandwich! Turns out it was the spicy kind. I got to take a bite and it was pretty darn spicy compared to what's offered in the states. We then finished it off with ice cream! Couple that with the 5 of us walking through what we believed to be a crosswalk and ended up dodging cars it was quite the adventure.

One other thing that's a bit funny is the fact that the Chinese ladies love Avery! They oogle him, stroke his cheeks, pat his head, stare as he walks down the street, and today an 18ish year old girl asked to take a few pictures of him on her mobile phone en route from the plane to the terminal (via bus). Avery gave her his best movie star smile... Avery's other admirer is a 4 year old girl named Ava who is here with her parents to adopt a little sister.

After dinner, Beth and I went to the parent's meeting to fill out the paperwork to apply for the adoption. There we also received a few pointers and some gifts for Zoe. Turns out she's the eldest of this travel group at 20 months. Also to our surprise there's one other girl from her orphanage (18 months) being adopted tomorrow - they're probably buddies. Everyone is excited!

Tomorrow we get up and grab breakfast then it's off to the registration office. That's where all the hoopla of "gotcha day" is going to take place. They made it sound like it's going to be a bit like a commencement ceremony in that each family will be called up one at a time and then presented with their baby rather than a diploma. They just better go in alphabetical order, or from oldest child to youngest!

Well, I've been in zombie mode since the middle of the meeting and I'm noticing that I can't type. Need to get some sleep since we're likely going to need it. Pictures will come of the big event (although no promises on quality since everyone but us will probably be taking them). After that, not sure that we'll update this as regularly since our focus will be elsewhere.
