Our Independence Day celebration started off pretty mellow yesterday with a neighborhood pool party - plenty of food, fun, and sun. Dad made a beeline for the food, eating 2.8 hot dogs and making sure everyone had their fill of cookies. Avery took to the pool like a fish. During one of the party games he scooped up more than $2 in change from the bottom of the pool. Otherwise he spent quite a bit of time swimming back & forth between Mom & Dad, what a difference a year of swim lessons makes.
After the pool we rushed home to get cleaned up for the main event - the Rockies Game followed by a fireworks show.
Little did we know that we were in for quite a game. Things got off to a very rough start when the Florida Marlins hit a home run on the very first pitch and we had to pull our starting pitcher in the 2nd inning. However, 4 hours later after overcoming a 9 run deficit the home team scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth (the biggest come from behind victory in franchise history). One of the highlights for us was Holliday's grand slam. Our seats were in left center field and Holliday hit the ball right at us (you could tell it was a home run the moment it left his bat). The ball landed about 10 rows in front of us, in fact if you know what to look for you can see the blur of our family when they replay the monster hit on Sports Center.
